Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) – 1 Day

Our 1-day Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course provides individuals with the essential knowledge, practical skills, and confidence needed to respond effectively to first aid emergencies in the workplace.

Ideal for low-risk working environments such as offices, retail premises, and small businesses, the course covers the key skills required to provide immediate assistance and manage casualties until professional medical help arrives.

Delivered by experienced staff, the training combines essential theory with practical, hands-on exercises and realistic scenarios. This practical approach helps learners build confidence and ensures they are prepared to respond calmly and effectively when it matters most.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

• Assess an emergency situation and identify appropriate actions.
• Provide immediate first aid to casualties.
• Casualty assessment using the primary survey and DRcABCDE approach
• Respond to common workplace injuries and medical emergencies.
• Manage casualties safely while awaiting professional medical assistance.
• Apply their knowledge and skills confidently in a range of emergency situations.

The Emergency First Aid at Work qualification is designed to meet Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements for low-risk workplaces where a full First Aid at Work qualification is not required.

Availability: All year round
Duration: 3 days (18 hours)
Group Size: 5–12 learners
Minimum Age: 18 years

Electronic certificates are emailed to learners approximately 2 weeks after completing the training.

The qualification is valid for 3 years.

To maintain workplace compliance, learners should renew their certification before it expires. Depending on workplace requirements, this can be achieved by completing another Emergency First Aid at Work course or progressing to a First Aid at Work qualification.

Regular refresher training is also recommended to maintain confidence, reinforce essential life-saving skills, and ensure learners remain up to date with current first aid practices.

We offer bespoke first aid training tailored to your group’s specific needs, delivered either at our training venue in Sussex or at a location of your choice.

During the course, learners will develop the knowledge and practical skills required to respond confidently to a range of workplace emergencies.

The course covers:

• Roles and responsibilities of an Emergency First Aider
• Scene safety and dynamic risk assessment
• Casualty assessment using the primary survey and DRcABCDE approach
• Managing an unresponsive casualty, including recognising normal and abnormal breathing
• Adult CPR and the safe and effective use of an AED
• Airway management and placing a casualty in the recovery position
• Recognition and treatment of choking
• Severe bleeding control and basic management of shock
• Burns and scalds, including appropriate first aid treatment

The training combines essential knowledge with hands-on practical exercises and realistic scenarios, helping learners build the confidence to respond effectively in an emergency.
